Using benchmarks to prepare your organization for AI adoption

Real-world applications of artificial intelligence (AI) for enterprises are rapidly evolving. One fast-growing area involves putting AI tools on PCs, laptops and mobile phones where processing happens locally on the device. These AI services help users automate workflows, summarize meetings and generate images, among other tasks.

While most AI processing currently happens in the cloud by the likes of hyperscalers (large-scale data centers), running computationally heavy AI services in the cloud is expensive to maintain. For this reason, technology vendors are starting to shift simpler AI tasks to local devices to reduce their own cloud computing costs. To meet this, it’s predicted for the share of AI-capable PCs to grow to 43% in 2025, up from only 17% in 2024 (Statista, 2025).

For enterprises, the upside to local AI computing is that business data can be kept private at their data centers or directly on devices, and users can still access AI features when offline.
