The state of health IT survey : How technology adoption is boosting the human experience

To better understand the priorities of healthcare organizations when adopting new technologies, Becker’s Healthcare and NextGen Healthcare surveyed 158 healthcare leaders from ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) and specialty care practices. Below are key findings and summarized insights from the survey.

Staffing remains a major issue and a big driver for technology investments

Over half (64%) of respondents said their organization is understaffed and they are having difficulty filling open positions. Another major issue is understaffing for budgetary reasons (46%).

Additional difficulties include:

• Retaining staff (72%)
• Staff overwhelmed by patient volume (60%)
• Staff overwhelmed by workflow efficiency (54%)
• Attracting staff (48%)

For ASCs and specialty care practices, staying competitive means being the employer of choice. This involves finding and implementing technology that can create an easier and more fulfilling job experience. The Becker’s-NextGen survey findings echo this, with 55% of respondents wanting to adopt new technology to stay competitive.
